Frank Chastenier began with 8 years to learn piano, touched by Oscar Peterson, Count Basie or Keith Jarrett. The organ he learned already playing to master at a young age. With just thirteen he got the first prize in the competition "Jugend jazzt". One year later, he toured as the youngest member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra NRW by the Republic. He was seventeen when he took up classical piano studies with Prof. Ulla Graf on Higher Education Institute in Aachen. He was enrolled at Francis Coppieters at the Cologne Academy of Music for Jazz Studies. 1987 reached the 20 years the final of the legendary "Thelonious Monk Competition" in Washington, DC. The following year, he took Peter Herbolzheimer in his Federal Jazz Orchestra (and later regularly "Rhythm Combination Brass "). 1990 celebrated Frank Chastenier his debut in the Big Band of the WDR in KÖln with a studio production.
