In his native Brazil Nelson Freer took piano lessons at the age of 3 years. Just two years later, in 1949, he gave to the Mozart Sonata in A Major his stage debut. To mark the launch of his great career is considered to be successful at the International Piano Competition in Rio de Janeiro in 1957, where he met Beethoven's Piano Concerto in E flat major, the jury Confident. Studied at Freire then when Gulda Teacher Bruno Seidlhofer. The international career began shortly thereafter, with concerts and recitals in major halls in Europe, America, South America and Asia. More prices as the Dinu Lipatti Medal in London and the first place at the International Vianna da Motta Competition in Lisbon (both 1964) followed.
Nelson Freer played with nearly all major orchestras. Among the Berlin and Munich Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, the London Symphony Orchestra and the American orchestras in Baltimore, Boston, Montreal New York, Philadelphia and many more. The most important conductors such as Boulez, Chailly, Gergiev, Jochum, Masur, Previn and Kempe engaged him as a soloist. With Martha Argerich Freire stepped repeatedly on the piano. He toured with her in 2003 by Japan, in 2004 by Brazil and Argentina and in 2005 by America. In the following two years, he has performed with the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, at the BBC Proms in London, with the French National Orchestra and the NHK in Tokyo and, again with Martha Argerich, in Toulouse and at the Ruhr Piano Festival. 2009 their joint album "Salzburg" with Decca. His European tour led in 2006/2007 in Switzerland, France, Austria, Germany, Portugal and Spain.
His DeccadebÜt gave Nelson Freire 2003 Chopin. Since then he has been an exclusive artist of the label and has released eight albums.
2010 appear the 200th anniversary of Chopin FrÉdÈdric whose Nocturnes and a re-release of Chopin's Sonata No.2.
