The band was founded in 1978 in East Berlin (former GDR) by Thomas Fritzsching and Mathias Schramm. Originally they wanted to use the band's name today establishing already, but this was forbidden by the authorities of communist East Germany, that the word is an anglicism. So called ado family Silly and made a supposedly crazy cat for band mascot. The longstanding singer Tamara Danz joined by casting to the group.
The first concerts outside the GDR gave the group in Romania, where they could also thanks to the fluent Romanian-speaking singer build a large following. In 1981 they were able to win the most famous music prize of the Eastern Bloc countries named Lyra in Bratislava. In 1982, the group in Silly be renamed, Rüdiger "Ritchie" Barton joined as keyboardist of the group and pushed the founding members Ulrich Mann and Manfred Kusno and with Werner Karma a dedicated copywriter was committed.
The 1983 released second album of the group under the title "Mont Klamott" was elected to the GDR for album of the year and consolidated the popularity of the band. Werner Karma made use of so-called green elephant when creating his lyrics for Silly, a red herring for the reviewing agencies that are expected to censor this heavily critical parts and let stand unterschwelligere. However, these tactics suggested in 1984 failed and the album "Between non rut" was not allowed to be published. It appeared in modified form under the title "Love Waltz", after the fall of the Wall, the original title out were brought.
Lyricist Werner Karma was ousted in 1989 and the hard-hitting album "February," appeared in the same year with only two lyrics from him. Singer Tamara Danz doubted later her and Silly ascribed importance to the turn in the GDR. By now free access to music from the West cooled the interest of citizens in the East to their former favorites, yet the group was located at this time very much on tours.
In subsequent years, the group split after massive differences from the West label Ariola, dedicating this to the 1993 released album "sons of bitches" the song "envious". In the West, the album was hardly noticed while the now disillusioned of reunification supporters drove to the east into the arms of Silly back. Wärhend the recordings of the following album "Paradise" was found in singer Tamara Danz breast cancer. Despite an immediate surgery, she died on 22.07.1996 at the age of 43 years, only five months after the publication of perhaps the best album of the band.
Despite the tragic bereavement, the band did not go apart. Silly served on tours in the following years various backup singers. In 2005, a street in Berlin was named after the late singer. Your succeeded by 2006. Anna Loos.
In early 2010, then released the next studio album by the band. For the first time since the death of Danz new songs were played back, the lyrics to came again from the pen of Werner Karma. Silly came so down to third place in the German album charts and received the gold record.
