"Wesley Schultz (9), who wants to become an artist later said: 'I spend a lot of time with my drawings, and they succeed better and better because I really practiced a lot." - Excerpt from an article in the New York Times of 15 March 1992
20 years ago, Wesley Schultz had a clear picture of his future in mind. The little boy, who grew up in Ramsey, New Jersey, a suburb of New York, worked from morning to night with his best friend Josh Fraites his mark arts. But today, two decades later, and as the lead singer of The Lumineers, He has a pencil and paper exchanged for the guitar; instead of drawings he is now working on songs, and he does alongside Jeremiah Fraites, the little brother of Josh. He Exerts still very much, today said songs, and they actually succeed in getting better.
However, the history of The Lumineers not just sunshine and roses. But on the contrary.
It begins in 2002, as Jeremiah's brother Josh dies with just 19 from a drug overdose. To process the tragic death of his brother and best friend somehow and endure the pain to better, Wes and Jer found soon to the music: The two write together first songs and take a short time later everywhere in the New York area on. When they then fought longer with the vagaries of the New York scene and the incredibly high cost of living, they decide to expand their horizons a bit. So they pack all their belongings together - which was actually just a few suitcases full of clothes and a trailer full of tools - and set off in the direction of Denver, Colorado. However, this step was less intended as a pilgrimage; Rather they would not give up easily and try your luck as a band just do it again in another corner of the hope.
Once in Denver, they wrote the first thing a Craigslist ad, and although they sought another fellow who could deal with the cello. The first who came forward on Neyla Pekarek was born in Denver and classically trained on the cello. So now a trio occurred, The Lumineers soon in on Meadowlark, a dim-dingy basement club where every Tuesday met the best songwriter of the city to exchange ideas fOr an open mic event (another reason was certainly the cheap beer, which cost a dollar ). New business remained sound not without consequences, because Neyla freed the approach of the guys from all superfluous edges and corners, and at the same time it extended the range to other instruments: mandolin and piano. So took the Sound of The Lumineers gradually clear forms: your name stands for a mix of catchy acoustic rock, classic pop and the kind of folk how him relaxing on a veranda presenting dignity.
In 2011, they recorded and released their eponymous, taken on their own debut EP, which attracted a well organized on your own tour of the States, and so it was that The Lumineers soon were able to inspire a large fanbase for themselves; begun in the western US, the people were finally on the east coast noisy (after coming so two of them from New Jersey). Here this fan community is anything but homogeneous: songs like "Ho Hey", now a massive chart hit in the US, or "Stubborn Love", two laced with Americana elements pieces that most closely with The Avett Brothers or Mumford Sons are, compare them not only young fans have provided, but also older semester and everything in between. The rather quiet, sensitive ballads made famous by Jeff Buckley or Ryan Adams, "Slow It Down" or "Dead Sea" for example, will delight fans with their direct, honest, unfiltered emotions and emotional expressions. And of course, many of these fans have simply fallen in love with their unique live show, because if The Lumineers playing live, which is always an example in terms of a sense of community and a very special meeting, have no place in the feelings of loneliness or depression.
This takes place on many levels roots music revival in recent years has already spawned a new generation of listeners who want to hear no plastic sound, but instead just honest, handmade, classic rustic sound: music that relies on traditions, but simultaneously looks forward and breaks in creative territory. In exactly this ridge move The Lumineers with their incredibly keen sense of timeless melodies and lyrics that get under your skin. Down to earth and turned forward at the same time, are The Lumineers Now on the verge to take these already gilded in the States sound with their eponymous debut album in other corners of the world.
Born of Grief, driven by passion and refined by hard work and on, have The Lumineers their sound obviously found just at the moment when the world had him most.
