The band Travis walked out of the group Glass Onion forth. Fran Healy, Andy Dunlop and Neil Primrose were together already in the predecessor group to first decided the other band members to throw out because he wanted to follow a different path with the band. For the bass guitar he brought his best friend Dougie Payne on board, although he had no experience with the instrument. Therefore he received a crash course and only two weeks later, the newly formed band had their first performance together.
After a while, with gigs in Scotland drew Fran Healy and Dougie Payne to London, in order to seek a suitable place for the band. the two were also able to find locally and signed a publishing contract for Travis Andy MacDonald personally. When picked up in '95 -'97 debut album "Good Feeling" then appeared on 08.09.1997 and received very positive reviews. In the British album charts, it reached the ninth position and gold status. Through extensive tours in the United Kingdom, the band was able to expand the fan base further.
On 24.05.1999 the second studio album of the band was titled "The man Who". The reviews were mostly very positive and it debuted at the seventh place of the British album charts. However, due to relatively low Airplay times the work fell right back up to position 19. When the band then at the Glastonbury Festival, the first chords of the hit single "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" sang it started actually suddenly raining. This story spread next day by the media and the band with more airplay times. In the course of the sales of "The Man Who" attracted and the album took the top of the UK album charts and the second place in Ireland. It reached a total of nine times platinum status and was awarded at the BRIT Awards 2000 as the best British album. The tour for the album was an impressive 237 performances worldwide.
The album "The Invisible Band", which was released on 11.06.2001 continued the success story. It reached the top of the charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Norway. In Germany Travis came up to third place, then stand in the United States after all, still position 39 of the US Billboard 200 to book. The album received several gold and platinum awards worldwide. In 2002, the group led by Fran Healy won a BRIT Award for Best British Band. A serious incident during a stopover of the tour in France almost led to the end of the band. Drummer Neil Primrose jumped headlong into the hotel pool, broke several neck vertebrae and nearly drowned. However, thanks to its full convalescence went for the Group.
In the episode was released on 13.10.2003 album "12 Memories", which reached the third position of the British album charts and some more Top10 placements, including Germany. Except for "Re-Offender" was not Travis single from this album achieve a comparable with the predecessors positioning. Another a collection of hit singles released on 01.11.2004, which reached platinum status. The fifth studio album by Scottish band then appeared only on 07.05.2007 under the title "The Boy With No Name". It reached the fourth, the eighth in Germany and Norway in second place in the UK.
On 29.09.2008 the sixth studio album was released, entitled "Ode To J. Smith". The sales reached nowhere near the values of previous albums. In autumn 2009, Andy and Fran tour went alone on a small North America under the motto "An Evening With Fran Healy And Andy Dunlop - A Chronological Accoustical Journey Threough The Travis Back Catalogue". this then resulted also a live CD.
2013 released their seventh studio album "Where You Stand".
