Vanessa Paradis is an artist who knows their stuff and takes seriously. Collaborations with other musicians she never went only half-heartedly and adventures of any nature never out of the way. FOr her new album "Love Songs" they trod common, artistic paths with Benjamin Biolay. And plenty of it - the result is a double album, sometimes opulent and large, sometimes intimate and sensitive, a total of 20 songs in a different guise. They combine different languages and emotion layers and yet all the songs revolve around one theme - love. An album so that Vanessa again showing from another, a soulful and yet strong side.
Only six years had passed since the release of her album "Divinidylle" passed nearly four years since their Best Of album and over two years since their acoustic tour. FOr Vanessa was time, to new horizons. some songwriters and composers were quickly found, a few songs were waiting for it to finally find their way to the studio, but then suddenly the surprise par: Benjamin Biolay presents Vanessa eight finish produced songs, which lacked only a single detail, namely Vanessa unique voice, the tender hug the melodies and the arrangements of the vocal Biolay put icing would.
With Benjamin Vanessa ventured on a journey through the music. Where they lead the journey would, was initially not clear and that this album so stylish in her artistic career classified dignity and compared to past collaborations with Serge Gainsbourg, Lenny Kravitz or -M- not shy need was only in the course of production significantly.
Vanessa blazed: Wild romance, a little rock, honest confessions and strong emotions merged under the skilled hand of the master to a work of art and gave the album its shape. Finally made it all the eight songs of Benjamin Biolay on Vanessa's latest work (seven in the standard version and a bonus track on the deluxe edition) and shine now in addition to those of his colleagues (Mathieu Boogaerts, Mikael Furnon, frontman of the group Mickey 3D, Carl Barat, Adrien Gallo of the BB Brunes, Ben Ricour, FranÇois Villevieille Elephant), and Vanessa's own songs.
"Love Songs" has many faces - sometimes well known, sometimes fresh and new, they tell of intimate stories or make for great surprises. As colorful as the list of collaborations on this album is so multifaceted are also the songs. They range from a familiar adaptation of a text by Ruth Ellsworth Carter ( "New Year"), About a duet with Carl Barat ( "The Dark It Comes"), up to a title in Italian ( "Tu si na cosa grande"), the "Fading Gigolo" by John Turturro will be heard in the film.
"Love Songs" is a timeless work of art, a collection of true musical pearls and memories of past love affairs and matters of the heart and an invitation to a walk through the world of emotions: The headstrong and almost spiritually sounding meditation in "L'au-delà" by Mikael Furnon, the fleet-footed radio à la Grace Jones in "Love Song", the miraculous game of hide in "Tu vois c'que J'vois" Mathieu Boogaerts, the melancholic romance in Vanessa's Song "Doorway", the crushing gravity of Benjamin Biolays "Chanson des vieux cons" (the divine Rachel Pignot, her character voice of Snow White in the French version of the Disney film), the rugged ExistenzabgrÜnde that open up in Boogaerts "Rempart", the romantic adventure in "Roses roses "(a duet with Benjamin Biolay) or the hard settlement with a past love affair in" Station Quatre-Septembre "...
The recordings for the album originated in the legendary Brussels ICP Studios where Benjamin Biolay, and some of his longtime, loyal companion, as the drummer and percussionist Denis Benarrosh or the guitarist Nicolas Fiszman, have arrived. Mixed and finalized the album was by none other than Erwin "Wax" Autrique and Tchad Blake (Elvis Costello, Tracy Chapman, The Black Keys, Pearl Jam).
"Love Songs" is like a true love story. To meet contrasting emotion worlds and boil over lifeblood of a bitter-sweet, melancholy smile and a brave voice that breaks through all doors and penetrate into the depths of the human soul.
Simple sentimentality and trite effects were never Vanessa hobbyhorse and therefore so is also their new album: Elegant, sincere and opulent confirming its adventure in glorious fashion. Vanessa has created songs that tell of real love - just no generic platitudes and no heartache-babble, but nothing but the truth, which she carries in her heart.
